Phonics and Reading in EYFS and KS1

In EYFS and KS1 we start with the Jolly Phonics scheme and move on to the Letters and Sounds document.

Some useful links to phonics games:

At Alsager Highfields we start reading by sharing books. As the child becomes confident with their phonic sounds they start to read decodable phonic books. When ready, they will move on to the reading level texts that we have in school, with each child working through the levels at their own pace, guided and assessed individually by their class teacher.

We use a range of reading scheme books and high quality 'real books' at each level, which provide a progressive structure for reading books in Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage One and Key Stage Two.

Once your child is reading confidenty at level 23 and above, they will then move on to reading Accelerated Reader banded texts.
