Maths

In Year 4 we learn maths while having fun!

For the first part of the Autumn term we will be focusing on Place Value. This will help the children to understand the basics of maths ready to apply their knowledge later in the year. 

The children then move on to addition and subtraction, followed by multiplication and division. This will challege the children as they will be working with much larger numbers than they were in Year 3. 

Just before Christmas, we will be looking at working out the area of shapes. This will include practical lessons where the children will be able to work out the area of the astro-turf outside (as long as it is not covered in snow by then of course!)

I would encourage the children to practise their times tables as much as possible. They will be completing a times table test each Friday, where they will be on competition with themselves to make sure they get better each week.
