Literacy

We enjoy reading and writing in Year 4.

This term we are going to be looking at The Firework Maker's Daughter by Phillip Pullman. This is a very exciting book that will take the children on a journey to strange worlds. This will lead into writing poetry, stories, and looking at fireworks around Bonfire Night and Divali.

Please try to read with your child as much as you can at home. I know it is hard to fit in sometimes, but even 2 or 3 minutes a night can make a huge difference.

You will find all of the Autumn Term spellings on the class page. Feel free to have a look at what is coming up over the next few months. The spellings will be sent home each Friday ready for a test the following Friday. I will also be teaching the children a different spelling rule each week to help them become confident.

The class's knowledge of grammar will be put to the limit this year. They will learn how to correctly use adverbs, verbs, adjectives, nouns (common nouns, proper nouns and pronouns, determiners, conjunctions, fronted adverbials, embedded clauses, statements, questions, exclamations, and many more! This will help prepare the children for the Year 6 SATS.
