RECEPTION CLASS STARTING SCHOOL ARRANGEMENTS

Firstly, we would like to say hello to all of our new families and those families who may be returning with their younger children. Due to the current uncertainty around schools, we have created this webpage to support all of our new starters for September 2020.

This page will be used to provide parents and carers with relevant information for their child, due to start in our Reception classes in September 2020.  Please keep checking back on this page for the latest developments and information.

We would usually invite you to attend a ‘New Starter’ Meeting in the Summer term before your child starts school however due to the current situation regarding Covid19 we are being creative and developing new ways to communicate and share information with our new families. This year we will be looking to host our new starter Meeting using Zoom, which is an online meeting platform, on Wednesday July 15th at 4pm. During this session you will receive all the information you will need for your child starting school.

  • You will receive information on school dinners, uniform, first aid procedures, curriculum and the structure of our day.
  • The Reception Team will also address some of the fears and anxieties that your child may have when starting school and how to overcome these by getting ready for school. We will have provided you with a booklet providing ideas on things that you could be doing with your child before they start school, helping them to become ‘Reception Ready’. We can discuss any concerns you may have during this session or on a 1-1 basis at another time.

We are working hard to ensure the very best start for your child at our school. It is such an exciting adventure to begin your learning journey in Reception so we have created our very own 'Welcome to your new school family' video for you to watch and share with your child to help them prepare for September. We can't wait to meet you! Please click on the photo below to watch our video

When your child starts school you may have many questions. Here are some Parents most common concerns...

Is there a phased entry when starting school?

Yes, our Reception children’s entry is usually phased over two weeks. In order to introduce the new children gently into full-time school we arrange for them to start school in smaller groups with a week of mornings and a week of afternoons. This enables us to spend time with your child as part of a smaller group ensurign they feel safe and settled as part of their new class family. You will receive your child’s session details by email prior to the ‘New Starters’ Meeting.

These first 2 weeks are an important stage in the transition from Nursery to Primary School and helps your child to settle and get to know their Teachers.

Where can I get my child's school uniform from?

There are a number of suppliers who provide our high quality, comfortable school uniforms. There will be details provided in your starter pack but see below for the links.

Will my child get to meet their Teacher before starting school?

Usually you would receive an invitation for your child to join us for an afternoon in July however we are looking at ways we can link up with you and your child to support their transition.

Does my child receive a free lunch?

Yes, as of September 2014 all children from Reception Class to Year 2 are entitled to free school meals. We encourage all the Reception children to have a school dinner. You will receive more information on the variety of meals and how you order these from home at our New Starter Meeting. Our Reception teachers eat a school meal with the children in the first term to support their confidence.

Can my child try these meals before they start school?

Usually in the Summer Term, the children and their parents are invited to come to school and have a dinner however this is not possible at this current time. We will continue to review the government guidance.

If my child has any additional needs are we able to have a one to one chat with the Teacher prior to starting school?

Yes, if your child has additional needs, please call the school office to make an appointment to see Mrs Henshall (Senco and Reception teacher) and Mrs Millichap (Reception Class Teacher). Please bring with you any information, details of support your child already receives, care plans if they have medical needs.

We are sure that your child will be very happy at Alsager Highfields and we are looking forward to beginning the learning journey with all of our new children and families, working in close partnership with you, the parents.

If you have any questions which have not been answered, please contact the school office. We will update this page with common queries.
