Mr Golds' Class 2020 - 2021

Mr Golds

I cannot begin to tell you all how amazing it is to be back teaching after lockdown. I truly hope that the past five months went well for you and that the children are ready to come back and enjoy learning again.

It has been a real pleasure to get to begin to know my class over the past few days. I feel so lucky to be teaching such a friendly class and I already know that we are going to have a brilliant year where we all learn, grow, and have fun along the way.

This week we are going to be writing our own adventure stories based in The Stone Age. We will be focusing on basic puncuation and handwriting as well as looking more on how to punctuate speech and write fronted adverbials.

The children worked so hard in maths lessons last week and really got the hang of Place Value. This week we will move on to looking at number patters and counting in 4s and 8s. The maths will be more challenging this week, but I know that the children will rise to it and succeed further.

We started last week at looking at a brief timeline of British history. We looked at when key events took place and how far back The Stone Age occurred. This week the children will have the chance to show what they already know about The Stone Age and then tell me what they would like to find out this half term.

We began looking at the human digestive system last week. This led to the class labelling the different parts of the digestive system. We will be learning the functions of some of these body parts this week and seeing how they help to keep us healthy.

We looked at the major cities in Britain last week and learnt a little about the city of Sheffield. We will continue to look at Sheffield this week to see how it compares to Alsager.

The chidlren did really wel drawing portraits in their sketch books last week. We looked at the artist Lucian Freud to see how he was able to draw people to show their emotions. We are going to continue this topic and look at the work of other artists. The children will begin to experiment with tone to give their drawings more emotion.

Ww will be looking at the different rules that we must abide by at home and school this week ready to learn about the rules that peple of the Jewish faith must follow. We are going to sign a class charter as a pledge to stop any bullying in Highfields.

We will be learning key skills in touch rudgy this week. We will learn how to hold a rugby ball properly and how to pass it. There will be a major focus on team work as we learn this game.

Here are some key points that you will need to know at the beginning of the year.

There is a big change within the school regarding PE this year. Your child will be able to come to school and leave school wearing their PE kit on their PE days. My class will be doing PE on Tuesdays and Fridays so please send your child into school wearing their PE kit. The correct PE kit consists of-
A yellow top, black shorts and pumps/trainers. For outdoor PE kits, please have tracksuits or jogging bottoms and long sleeved tops.

Your child will be given a brand new reading diary on Monday 14th September. Reading at home is vitally important to the education of every child. Can you please encourage your child to read with you at least 4 times per week.
