Mr Bailey's Class 2018 - 2019

Mr Bailey

Spring Term 2019

Welcome back! I hope that everyone has had a great Christmas and that you are all ready to get back to work! We have a busy term ahead of us but one that will be fun and exciting. This page is intended to make you feel involved and informed of everything that we are doing. Hopefully it will give you an idea of what we are doing and where learning can be supported at home, as well as at school.

The first part of this term we will be continuing our topic of 'The Stone Age'. This is a very exciting topic and we will continue see look at how people living in Stone Age times lived and survived. We will build on our learning from last term and look at more Stone Age homes, Hillforts and see how the Druids played a part in moving from the Stone Age all the way to the Iron Age and beyond.

In English this term we will begin by looking at narratives and what it takes to write a good story that will grip it's reader, instructions and how they are written, newspaper reports and the techniques used to produce them, as well as other genres of writing. We will base our writing on the book 'Oliver and the Seawigs' by Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre.

Home School Planners

I would like to encourage you to use the home school planners to write in anything your child achieves at home or use it to share any problems your child might be encountering. Please try to hear your child read on a daily basis and fill in their planner on each occasion.

This will be given out on Friday to be handed in the following Thursday. If completed sooner then it can be handed in earlier. We will have our weekly spellings and times tables test on a Friday. Homework will consist of Spellings, Times Tables work, Grammar work (children will be given their own book for this) and also work to complete on MyMaths each week. If anyone does not have internet access at home please let me know and alternative arrangements can be made.

PE Kit

As a school could we please remind you that PE kit is a yellow top, black shorts and trainers. If the weather is cold please bring track suits or jogging bottoms and long sleeved tops - no football shirts please, even Crewe shirts! Our PE will take place on Thursday or Friday afternoons but all children will need their PE kits in school every day, including correct footwear. As a school, we are trying to encourage the children to wear the correct clothing for these activities and so would appreciate your support. For further information please look at our uniform policy.

PPA - Wednesday Afternoon

PPA as usual is on Wednesday afternoons. This half-term we will have French with Mrs Godley.

Water Bottles

Please ensure your child brings their water bottle to school everyday and that it is clearly labelled with their name.
