Miss Crowther-Green's Class 2018 - 2019

Miss Crowther-Green

Hello and welcome to the Year 5 class page.

Summer Term

Welcome back to the Summer Term. We hope you and your children have had a lovely break over the Easter Holidays.

This term we are looking at a range of fantastic topics, including Maps and Rivers in Geography as well as Light and Animals Including Humans in Science. We have lots of fantastic and exciting ideas planned for the term ahead, so please do refer to our curriculum information planner which you will find at the bottom of the class pages.

In English this term, we will be reading Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. We are also looking at Myth Match, a creatively designed book that will help to develop some fantastic character descriptions. We will also be creating our own  balanced arguments (based on current World issues), and writing letters.

This Term our PPA is on a Wednesday. The children will be doing PE, so please remember to bring in your kits!

We have brass this term! An excellent brass tutor will be teaching all of Year 5 how to play the trumpet or the baritone. Each child will be given their own instrument to take home with them. Please look after these instruments and remember to bring them in every Thursday. Also, don't forget to practice!

PE sessions will involve Invasion Games this term. We are lucky to have Mr Wakefield with  us every Wednesday to teach us some new skills. Please ensure that the children have the appropriate PE kit (both outdoor and indoor kit) available in school.

Outdoor Kit: Trainers, black track suit bottoms with the school logo or black shorts (weather dependent), yellow school t-Shirt and black or green school jumper.

Indoor Kit: Pumps, black shorts and a yellow school t-Shirt. (All named please!)

Each week there are three sets of homework; Spellings, Maths (MyMaths online) and Grammar Skills (each child will have their own book). Homework will be given out on a Friday and should be returned by the following Thursday please, although it can be handed in earlier if your child completes it beforehand. It would also be beneficial if your child could read and practice their timetables for 5 minutes each day.

Educational Visits

During the year there will be educational trips and visits taking place.

Also, as part of Upper Key Stage 2, the children will take part in our residential visit to Menai, from the 22nd to 24th May 2019; there are a fantastic range of activities planned for this visit, which will also include our visit to the beach.

Class Assembly

Our Class Assembly is on the 21st June 2019.
